I walked into McDonald’s expecting the same old deal. Greasy comfort. Predictable regret. Fries that taste like childhood and bad decisions. What I did not expect was to open the bag and think, what bullshit is this, dafuq with this.

The fries came first. No red container. No proud cardboard spine holding them upright like they mattered. Just a paper bag, the same limp sleeve they use for small fries, scaled up and pretending to be enough. The moment you touch it, it collapses. Fries slump into each other. Steam gets trapped. Salt pools at the bottom like residue from a decision made by people who do not eat their own product.

I told myself maybe it stops there. Maybe this is just one bad call.

Then the nuggets showed up and that was it. The nuggets are now in paper sleeves. Sleeves. What bullshit is this. Dafuq with this. Nuggets are dipped. That is the whole point. This is not abstract. This is not optional. You open the sleeve and it folds in on itself immediately. No structure. No hinge. No respect for how food is actually eaten.

You try to dip and the sleeve shifts. You grab another nugget and the paper goes soft from grease and heat. The opening shrinks as you go, like the packaging is actively resisting you. By nugget number three, your fingers are oily, the sleeve is warped, and the sauce cup is one bad move away from disaster. This was a solved problem. The box worked. It stayed open. It understood the ritual.

This is not nostalgia. This is basic usability.

Do not dress this up as sustainability. If it were, you would own it and say it plainly. This is cost cutting wrapped in brown paper. One material. One form factor. Fewer boxes. Less structure. The savings show up in a spreadsheet. The loss shows up in your hands.

McDonald’s built its dominance on consistency. Same taste. Same process. Same experience. You mess with the container and the whole thing starts to feel cheaper. Temporary. Like the brand is embarrassed by itself.

This is how decay starts. Not with a scandal. With quiet downgrades people are expected to accept without complaining.
